VINSOBRES, Premier Cru of the Côtes du Rhône in Drôme Provençale since 2006
Why did the Committee of Vinsobres Winemakers decide to homogenize the bottles of its products ?
In the first place, it was to claim a territorial oenological identity. To this end we decided to apply for the status of “appellation locale” from the INAO in 1999. In compiling our file, we gathered together a copious amount of information concerning our viticulture.
Among this information, we lacked both a chemical and sensorial analysis of Vinsobres wines. This last one led us to some particularly interesting observations.
Indeed, the observation of sensorial profiles generated by various juries made it clear there was a similarity between one vintage and another. Despite changes in climate, we observed a certain homogeneity expressing the land at the heart of the appellation.
Because of this, for obvious reasons of cohesion and to combine our strengths, we made the decision to federate, concentrate and centralize our orders with outside suppliers.
Why did you choose to partner with the VOA ?
In addition to quality service, we chose to work with the VOA both for logistical reasons (a warehouse close by) and for our relationship with the VOA team. As for design, though we arrived with our specifications, it was about bringing minor changes as the project progressed, obtaining optimized results.
The Vinsobres bottles bear the Vinsobres logo; why this choice ?
We wanted to claim a “terroir effect” for Vinsobres and to evolve the design of the bottle with an immediately identifiable and unifying element. We already use this stylization for our print communications.
As for the bottles, they’ve carried crests for generations. The co-ops, wine cellars or negociants had to take ownership of the product and it was essential that the logo did not misrepresent the Vinsobres identity but instead enhance it with a highly elegant and differentiating distinction.
As for the model, we opted for the most widely used in the sector, the BOURGOGNE TRADITION, an ideal container to please the largest number of people as possible.
